Paddy Larkin has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Mutual Energy, with effect from 1st January 2010. He joined what was then Northern Ireland Energy Holdings in 2007 as an executive director and managing director for the Moyle Interconnector.
After studying mechanical engineering at Queen’s University Belfast, he started work with NIE at Ballylumford power station in 1991 just before privatisation. In 1992 British Gas bought Ballylumford Power station and Paddy continued to work with Premier Power, initially in breakdown maintenance before moving to the business side of the operation where he helped to oversee the change in practices from a nationalised to a private company. Later he was involved in the buy out of the long term contracts and construction of the combined cycle gas turbine and served as the station’s Chief Executive.
Gerard McIlroy
Finance Director
Gerard joined Mutual Energy in July 2006 and was appointed Finance Director for the group in January 2010. A fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland, Gerard trained with Coopers and Lybrand in Belfast and has previous experience in the health, retail and energy sectors within Northern Ireland. He joined Mutual Energy after five years with the Viridian Group where he was Finance Manager with their unregulated energy supply business covering both the Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland market.
Stephen Hemphill
Group Operations Manager
Stephen Hemphill has been appointed Group Operations Manager, Mutual Energy, with effect from 1st January 2010. Stephen was formerly Operations Manager for Premier Transmission Limited within the Mutual Energy Group. A Chartered Mechanical Engineer, Stephen joined British Gas (North Thames) in 1990, and has since gained a varied experience of the UK and RoI gas industries through various managerial positions with British Gas, Phoenix Natural Gas and Bord Gais Eireann.
Emmet McFadden
Gas Operations Manager
Emmet McFadden is Operations Officer for PTL within the Mutual Energy Group. A Chartered Mechanical Engineer, Emmet joined Phoenix Natural Gas in 1999 as a graduate trainee, he has worked in all aspects of Gas Distribution Engineering, before joining PTL in April 2005. He is currently responsible for Network Code, Shipper relations and associated systems.
Mick McGuckin
Moyle Operations Engineer
Mick joined Mutual Energy in July 2010 and is responsible for Engineering Operations on the Moyle HVDC Interconnector.
Mick was awarded a scholarship with Nortel Networks before completing a Masters degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Queens University Belfast. His interests then shifted into the Energy Sector, spending almost 6 years with Scottish Power including the completion of an IET approved training programme. Since then, Mick has held operational, regulatory and asset management roles in both England and Scotland.”
Mark Raphael
Gas Operations Engineer
Mark joined Premier Transmission in September 2008. He is responsible for day to day customer operations, including billing shippers and the network code development.
Mark joined Phoenix Natural Gas in 2002 as a Engineering Graduate, then moved to firmus energy as Industrial and Commercial Engineer before joining PTL in September 2008. Mark is a keen sportsman having played hockey as an Irish International.
Paul McGuckin
Financial Controller
Paul joined Mutual Energy as Business Analyst in September 2008 and is responsible for providing a complete financial analysis and financial modelling resource for the Mutual Energy group.
A Chartered Accountant, Paul completed his accountancy training with KPMG prior to joining Mutual Energy. Paul spent 4 years with KPMG’s corporate finance department where he gained significant experience in financial modeling and analysis through working on fundraising mandates, business acquisitions, disposals and valuations across a variety of sectors.
Emma Jayne Armstrong
Accountant
Emma Jayne Armstrong joined Mutual Energy as an Accountant in March 2010. Emma Jayne, sponsored by Du Pont, qualified from Queen’s University Belfast with a BEng in mechanical engineering before qualifying as a chartered accountant and spending nearly five years with Ernst & Young in the firm’s audit department.
