Together with the other NI Gas Network Operators, we are proud to launch our vision on how to fully decarbonise the region’s gas network by 2050.
We are wholly committed to delivering outcomes in the long-term interest of Northern Ireland’s energy consumers, and as part of the Pathway to Net-Zero Report, we highlight the benefits of the hydrogen economy and how it can help overcome the intermittency of renewable electricity. Over the coming year, we will start to see the benefits from this Pathway, with the injection of biomethane into NI’s gas grid expected to commence as soon as 2023 to support our emission targets.
A strategic and coordinated approach to whole energy system planning is vital to chart the transition to net zero and affordable energy for consumers, and we are delighted to reveal this pioneering pathway with industry partners.
