Mutual Energy joins Future Energy Networks

Future Energy Networks (FEN), the representative organisation for UK gas networks, has marked its first birthday by announcing that five networks with operations in Northern Ireland have become associate members.

At a celebratory event in held in Central London in September, FEN CEO, James Earl, announced that Mutual Energy together with Phoenix Natural Gas, Kinecx Energy, Evolve, and Gas Networks Ireland, who collectively transport energy across Northern Ireland, have become the first FEN members of this kind.

As associate members, Mutual Energy will join FEN working groups and have access to cutting-edge analysis and data, amongst other key benefits.

This expansion in FEN’s membership underscores the determination of gas networks across the UK to deliver a smooth transition to the energy systems of tomorrow while effectively managing the networks of today.

Paddy Larkin, CEO, Mutual Energy said: “Across the gas network in Northern Ireland, operators are working together on decarbonisation and net zero. Gas infrastructure has an important role to play in delivering the energy transition, and providing security of supply. As members of FEN we are engaging collaboratively with peers across the UK to share best practice as we continue this vital work.”

James Earl, CEO, Future Energy Networks (FEN), said: “With our membership now drawn from all four corners of the UK, FEN is well placed to make the evidence-led case for an equitable and affordable transition to Net Zero. As we mark our first birthday, we look forward to working with our five new associate members to deliver the sustainable, reliable and efficient gas networks of the future.”
